18 Feb 2016 – Sonnet

I guess it’s time – I’m gonna build a wall
to keep late-comers out. I got here first,
and I can’t help it if I’m lucky, y’all,
and I’ll be damned if I let you coerce
me into feelin’ sorry for these mobs
who come here sobbing, say they’re refugees,
when all they really want’s to take our jobs –
that’s why the sheriff and his deputies
are paid to lock ’em up and send ’em home.
Go back and fight your drugloads, boys and girls!
Go back and form an army, ask for loans,
we’ll sell ya guns and dress our wives in pearls.
I got no time for whining hearts who bleed.
No room in this one, it’s subleased to greed!
