January carries a freshness
with the Wisconsin cold
The air is crisp and clear
clarifying the bold
Intricate designs, weaving this way and that
travel the mind
Thoughts are strong and questioning
As the confident courage rewinds
the early morning stillness
tiptoes through the heart
offering another day of love
offering another day of giving
as we paint our moments on the windows of life
called to be a sun-filled blessing
valuing the LIGHT in each other and in ourselves
in the silence of the Presence
we pray for ourselves and for each other
Blessings to Each of YOU, my dear Readers and your families, in this year of 2015!
The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2014 annual report for this blog.
Here’s an excerpt:
A New York City subway train holds 1,200 people. This blog was viewed about 7,500 times in 2014. If it were a NYC subway train, it would take about 6 trips to carry that many people.
surrounding us is the sound of wind in the deep forest
rustling the autumn leaves — hurrying them to their death
quietly they take their place upon the moss-covered earth
as our senses absorb them in an awe-inspiring breath
they fall–there within their colors deep
red ruby piercing through the brown decay
lemon yellow tickling the mood
apricot orange is on display as our eyes walk on their way
bleeding heart berries bowing to us
white pine needles shedding their dress
the evergreen calls for our vigilance
while quietly tufts of grass are being laid to rest

Composed by Nadia, 5 years young. She is home today with strep throat and an ear infection but is beginning to feel better! 🙂 She asked for some paper and a pencil and then she said she wrote this poem for me! She used pictures to write the poem and then interpreted the intended meanings– the last picture is her “Writer’s Notepad!”

Women are Human Beings. Women ARE Equal to Men. What else is there to say? We can complement one another…we do NOT need to compete with each other…we just need to accept each other as human beings and treat each other with respect. Historically, we know that women were not supposed to have an opinion, a good idea, or anything but a good dinner on the table. There was little a woman was allowed to do besides all of the housework, cooking, baking, When abolitionists and suffragettes began to stand up at a podium to speak in support of ending slavery and allowing women to vote.
Now women are speakers, writers, CEO’s, athletes and not the weaker or second sex. Are we equal. NO! I am a news junkie and America is suffering from an increase of racism and misogyny. Black men are being targeted. Even a white woman like I am can see that. Republicans have made sure that women do not earn equal pay for equal work. We are the only citizens who are not legally equal. Why? Men are threatened by women, especially women who are assertive. I will never…

We must always keep a DREAM in our heart! Please direct your likes and comments to: http://pastlifetourist.com/2014/10/08/the-art-of-dreaming/comment-page-1/#comment-713
“Let yourself be drawn by the strange pull of that which you truly love.” Rumi
Don’t you just love all of the inspirational quotes about following your dreams? “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams”. Preach it, Eleanor Roosevelt! Or what about our buddy Walt Disney: “If you can dream it, you can do it”. And since I have reached that 1/2 century marker, C.S. Lewis has become my new BFF with this one: “You are never too old to set a new goal or dream a new dream”. Makes me want to take up embroidery so that I can put that on a pillow.
I have found that the problem with growing older is that my freedom and capacity to dream seems to have diminished. When I was young I could look toward the future and know that anything was possible. Everything…

People often ask me why do I read so much non-fiction when other concentrate their focus on fiction. Sometimes nonfiction can be as terrifying as a Stephen King novel. Sometimes it can be as disturbing as the best dystopian novels. Most of all it is real and…

Dedicated with Gratitude to Dr. Horty Rexach
for the gentle inspiration she has given to me and for the courage in which she lives her life
*
the gentleness of the wind
shifting to the right
and then to the left
carries the floating leaf to the ground
cushioning its final resting place
as it is received
into Mother Earth

feelings
–strong emotions in our life–
move us back and forth
through our conjured expectations
as we tighten our grip on illusions…
release them, we must–gently–
it is necessary for our rebirth
*
allow the feelings to dissipate
and give rise to new life
like the tulip and daffodil bulbs
that we bury in the Fall
acknowledge their presence
weep with them if we must
then, gently put our feelings to rest
*
rise above
look for the good
and
be the good
today is our moment
NOW is our time
moving forward with our best
