love is never easy even if there is no obvious fight
emotional, physical love can carry you to great heights
intensity transforms you to new sights
then reality sets in…and you have to set things right

I discovered this quote on my Facebook page this evening…well, guess it is early morning! Oh my goodness…it is 12:42AM~ Oh well. This is a great thought to begin your day with! Retiring from teaching after 36 years was so difficult a transition…I am not quite down transitioning yet! LOL In any case, I think if we do not have a purpose, then we must create one! And this quote just seems to go with that idea perfectly! So, forge ahead! You young people who think life has already passed you by—no! Never! Live your dream! Go for it! Give it all you have and don’t ever give up!
Even when the days get so dark and you think you have no one—you have yourself! You are your own best friend and there is no one else who can be there for you who will know exactly what you need than yourself! Yes, others are important in our lives—they teach us to how to BE…they love us…they give us their friendship…but in the end, YOU have to be for YOU! And, there is nothing wrong with that! You are in God’s LOVE—however, you imagine Her to BE! You are loved and you have a breath…you have air to breathe…you have life to share.
YOU are IMPORTANT! Believe in yourself and never hurt yourself…because we would miss you! We need your LOVE CRYSTAL in our lives! Believe me…please! You have so much beauty and warmth…we need all the LOVE CRYSTALS we can gather! The world needs YOU! Yes, I mean YOU!
Just remember, ALWAYS give it one more try! Don’t give up…just give in to love….and know YOU are LOVE….and YOU live in LOVE…and we need LOVE CRYSTALS in this world! There is so much suffering—give joy to yourself…and share it with the next person! YOU are so important!
And you people who are my ancient age, hey, YOU have a lot of life in you…you are still breathing, aren’t you? I can tell you from my own experience of retiring unexpectedly—how weird it was! The day after I retired, inevitably one of my three daughters would call me or visit me and say, “Are you alright, Mom? Do you need something? What are you doing, Mom?” Well, I was still breathing…lol…and I could *not* believe that in 24 hours time they were ready to write up my obituary! I have plenty of life remaining in me…and I have decided that I am NO LONGER RETIRED!
I am on a quest! I feel like the Madam Don Quixote—I find myself examining my moral principles and beliefs…my preconceptions about things…and misconceptions…and whether I should follow the chivalric code! Sometimes I even question my sanity! However, since our country seems to have reverted to the feudalism of the Middle Ages, I may as well go along for the journey. I have a strange liking for Robin Hood as of late, especially when I think of the 1% and how their egos are so inflated they cannot see how they got to where they are–they have forgotten the peasants who did the labor! I see our politicians as the Medieval Kings and Princes — who seem to pass laws that protect their assets, but do little to serve the general interests of the population! We certainly need a new Round Table with chivalrous knights! 26,000 sexual assaults took place in the USA Military last year!—wow—speak about reverting to a time when women were only important for one thing! My, how civilized we have become!
I am striving to live as a minimalist, and realize I have a distance to travel to achieve that goal. In addition to that, I decided I am going to write and write and write! I will write and be heard until the world leaders listen to us and take their job to represent US seriously! US = America…USA. I will write until world leaders everywhere listen to their people and stop using us to kill each other! I will write until people begin to see how guns are violent and how those manufacturers do not really care about your safety—they care only to fill their pockets with blood money.
I will write, and hopefully, you will join me, until every young girl and woman, knows it is her right to be respected and not used for sexual favors…that she has the right not to be raped! I will write until every homeless person has a home to live in. I will write so that the mentally challenged are given a chance to be understood.
I will write until every child is respected as a human being and is not seen as someone who has no human rights…I will write until each child is seen as a gift and not a piece of property to be ordered around! I will write until every gay, lesbian, transgender, bisexual person is respected as a true human being deserving to live like everyone else does! This is particularly on my mind this evening because I just read about a young man, 32 year old Mark Carson, was walking down the street in New York City last Friday evening when a man came up to him and his friends, yelled “f—ot” and “queer,” and shot him in the head. WHY are we killing each other? WHY?
I will write until everyone sees that it does not matter which faith we believe in…it does not matter if someone thinks or believes in a different God or no God—what matters is that we love each other and keep love alive in this world!
Thus, this is my new purpose in life…to write for those who cannot write…to speak for those who cannot speak!
I will keep writing for hope, for beauty, for truth, for honesty, for love…because we have to do this! If we do not do it, who will? We have to write to give people courage and hope and tell them there is beauty in this world…and we do care about them…each and every one!
And, to be perfectly honest, I need a purpose! Everyone does! And we can help each other in this! Encourage one another and keep those love crystals passing to one another!
So you had a stroke
You still have a heart of love
You are still you, always!

Today, May 19, 2013, my daughter, Lara, is going to graduate from Marquette University! I am so proud of her and all of her accomplishments and growth during these past four years! How do I express all the feelings of joy that are in my heart this day for her! Lara accepted her gifts and talents and used them to create a dream come true.
First of all, let me write this disclaimer, Lara will be annoyed with me for writing this page and singing her praises. But I, as her mother, know this child! I have seen her grow through this last 22 years…I have seen her happy smiles and shy demeanor blossom into this beautiful, out-going yet reserved, compassionate young woman. I am so proud of her and her accomplishments ever since her Light Being came into this world! So, she will just have to bear this mother pride for today. Today at the Baccalaureate Mass for the Graduates, my tears did begin to flow… how beautiful my daughter, Lara, has always been to me, continues to be, and her gift to the world. I hope she grants me this indulgence — I want to share some GOOD NEWS for this world…and the possibility of promise and that someone, Lara, made this possibility into a reality!
We live in the countryside, in a rural setting, an hour from the city of Milwaukee — a city where so much activity occurs daily as the breeze from Lake Michigan flows into the city. An hour may not seem like a great distance to some, but I remember when the day came to drive Lara into Milwaukee to visit Marquette University for the first time. We had reached as far as the Milwaukee Brewers Baseball Stadium, and Lara remarked: “Mom, this is further from home than I realized!” This was after forty-five minutes of driving that took us into the heart of the downtown. I could sense that for her, this was a “great distance” and felt her bit of angst that she was embarking on a great journey– leaving home for the first time.
I graduated from Marquette University in 1974…now it is 2013…and my daughter followed in my footsteps. Unbelievable to me! I did not encourage her in the least to go to this college…it had to be her own choice. When she told me her plan after completing her high school diploma, I was amazed and so happy with her decision. Now, four years later, she has completed another part of her journey in life. She was blessed with scholarships and she also was accepted into the work/study program. Lara held a job in the Student Union for four years, eventually becoming one of the Student Managers. Yesterday, she received recognition for this service at a banquet in which the Manager of her particular work, said this about her: “Lara was a strong force in our program. She was a silent leader–she was unassuming and dependable and a leader who was respected by the other students. I appreciate this immensely from her!” So proud I am of her!
While a student, Lara not only studied diligently, worked to support her education, but also volunteered her time when she was not studying or working! Lara was always involved in some outside activity. Her freshman year she belonged to the Step-up [http://stepupmu.webs.com/] –the Marquette Chapter, established in 2009 on campus, is described as a “group of students passionate about seeing change in the world.” The program specifically focused on educating students about the 1994 Rwandan genocide. This organization increases awareness among the students that the family of humans does not know land or ocean boundaries. The Step-up Organization raises cultural awareness of what is being done in Rwanda today and how the students can help to eradicate genocide in the thinking of society and specifically help rebuild the Rwandan women, by educating the student and staff population, and raises funds to support the healing of Rwandan women who were the victims of sexual-based violence.
Lara’s freshman year was her initiation into this program as a full time member and participant, by sophomore year, she was Secretary of the Organization and in her Junior Year she served as President of the organization on campus. I find her dedication to this cause of reaching beyond the borders of our country, across the ocean, as an extension of her willingness to go beyond her own comfort zone and to be a positive difference in this world. In ten days, Lara is going to take this humanitarian drive of hers even further, when she leaves as a Peace Corps volunteer for Togo, West Africa for the next two years. [You can imagine the tugs that are happening on my mother heart strings!]. I am so proud of her desire to be of service to others!
Lara’s first summer after freshman year, was an invitation to be a Program Assistant for the Freshman Frontier Program at Marquette University. During this time she designed and implemented academic and social programs for incoming freshmen. She also served as Resident Assistant in the residence hall for the same program.
In addition to this, during her sophomore year, Lara volunteered as a tutor at the Adult Learning Center in Milwaukee. In her junior year, she volunteered two years, two nights a week, as a tutor at the International Learning Center. In this atmosphere her love of other people and other cultures grew. What this says to me about Lara is that she could have used her time for herself, but unselfishly she gave her free time to others and increased her own awareness of the needs of others and her sense of sharing her own gifts to help our world.
In Lara’s sophomore year, she spent her Christmas vacation working in New Orleans with Habitat for Humanity. Throughout her four years, Lara went beyond herself and stretched her understanding and sense of duty by involving herself in activities that would help others.
Lara also has a sense of civic pride, and was an active participant and intern in several political organizations during her four years. She served a semester an an intern for the then Senator Herbert Kohl of Wisconsin. She worked on the Walker Recall Campaign, helped with President Obama’s campaign as a member of the Marquette University chapter of Democratic Students and was an active participant for Sen. Tammy Baldwin’s campaign for U. S. Senator. This past school year, Lara was elected as Vice-President of Marquette Democrats and then was chosen to be the Student President of M.U.’s Young Democrats on campus.
Through all of her involvement, Lara kept her focus on her studies and has respected the gift in herself. Lara studied hard and gave herself fully to her four years as a student at this university. She rightfully deserves to be proud of herself and her accomplishments. We are all proud of her and how she has become her own person and continues to be a gift to the world, as she in turn, graciously receives all that life has to offer.
Yesterday at the graduation, she received the 2013 Frank Mazzulla Memorial Award that is given to the outstanding senior who represents Marquette’s values of excellence, leadership, service and faith. I think this is one of the most blessed awards to receive. Lara certainly gave her all to her studies and to volunteer requests as a student during her four years.
Lara also was inducted into Sigma Tau Delta, International English Honor Society. She also had her story published in the Marquette Literary Review [http://www.marquette.edu/english/litreview/documents/MLRIssue4.pdf].
I thank the people at Marquette University, especially Mrs. Mary L. Minson and Ms. Rebecca A. D’AMore, for their unwavering faith in Lara’s potential as a student at Marquette University. They guided her safely throughout her life as a student at Marquette and were an invaluable and priceless support to her!
Congratulations to Lara and all of her accomplishments! She knows that I love her with all of my heart! I thank the God of Love for bringing her into my life and into our family. We are blessed with a Light Being…and I ask the God of Love to continue to guide her gently through her life and bless her with love of self and of others to keep her strong in our world. When she was in first grade she said to me, “Snowmen may melt, but never your heart.” Her heart is strong and the only melting that is taking place is her love melting over the world and in my heart!

early at 4:45 AM the sounds reach in through my windows
as the early choir of birds sing their way into my being
offering their song for the day, their hope for joy
streaming through the sunlit beams of dreams
beckoning me out of my comfort
promising to fly with me through the maze
winging their way through Mother Earth
accompanying me out of the purple haze
chirping with delight, innocence… so free
with courage and daring they go into flight
angel wings carrying them out to SEE
promising another day to live with delight!

tonight i am thinking of my brother, Bill
and how i miss him from this life
it is two months today since he has gone, leaving me with no fill
tears are falling and my heart feels cut like a knife
then i happened upon an old Inuit tale
that said that perhaps the stars are not stars
and i became still and very pale
but i read on and heard the stars are openings from afar
where the love of our lost ones pours through
their light is shining upon us to let us know that they are smiling
and we never have to say adieu
they are tiptoeing through the night sky dancing
****************************************
My brother, Bill, was fifteen months younger than myself. He died less than a month before his 62nd birthday. He died from myotonic dystrophy, a genetic disorder that is much like muscular dystrophy. The disease is characterized by muscle weakness and a gradual death of nerve cells within the body organs. With my brother, his speech became more and more slurred, then he could no longer swallow, as the epiglottis no longer functioned, and the food would travel down his windpipe, rather than the alimentary canal. This resulted in respiratory problems and pneumonia. He eventually chose to be tube-fed. He had great difficulty walking, as his muscles would contract and then not release. Then his ability to breathe lessened and he was nearing the need for a ventilator, but his heart gave out before that could be placed.
Bill was a very unassuming individual. He went about his life quietly as he matured. When we were kids, he would always play the Catholic priest and give us Stark candy circles for communion. He had a talent for drawing that was curtailed with his muscle degeneration. He was kind and helpful to others and would often give a room to someone who needed a place to stay. Bill did not advertise his generous nature, but if he saw that you needed something, one day it would appear in your mailbox—as he did for me after a visit, and noticed my cooking utensils were dull and few. A week after he visited, a block of sharpened knives appeared at my front door! I have heard similar tales of his generosity.
This disease is so strange…when we were growing up together, it was not noticeable, except for his tiredness during the day, and his inability to sleep at night. This turns out to be a symptom of the disease. Bill enjoyed elementary and high school–and was in the US Army in the paratrooper division when the disease manifested itself. Around the age of 27, the myotonic dystrophy ballooned! His walking and speech became increasingly difficult, and he was honorably discharged from the Army.
He eventually moved to Missouri and then Kansas, where he met Harriette, his wife of the last ten years. I was happy for him that he found someone he could love and who loved him. He deserved that in this life.
I was able to see him in January in Kansas, as he had to go to a nursing facility. My older brother, Claude, and his wife, Kerri, were kind enough to take me with them to visit him for a week. But you know, that week was not enough! What amazed me so, was his calm way of preparing everything so that Harriette would not have difficulty in taking over once he left us. He went about it so diligently and without any pompous noise. He just did what he had do in such a matter-of-fact manner. He didn’t worry about leaving or fear his death—his only concern was to make things easier for his wife. Even in his last days, he was so giving. I wonder if I could be like that!
I do miss him and guess that is just one more person I will have to look forward to speaking to when I am in that next place…nevertheless, the tears are many and often…still….tears in between the tears.
We also lost our sister, Barbara, to the disease three years ago. There are 16 people among my siblings and first cousins who have the disease.

Yes, I was eavesdropping! My darlings are here tonight for a sleepover. while their Mommy visits with her sister before the younger sister takes off for Togo, West Africa as a Peace Corps volunteer. Ayden and Nadia are playing with the toys, and all of a sudden I heard this plaintive whimper from Nadia. My grandma ears went on alert. I waited a second before moving into action, and I overheard Ayden say, “Sissy, you know it is not about winning; it is just about having fun!” in the most gentle tone ever! It was wonderful to hear this! Immediately, Nadia responded giggling, “Oh yeah, that’s right!.” Onward they played wonderfully! This was a Hallmark moment!
I am raging with anger today…the only way I can get it out…is by expressing WHY…and sending PRAYERS of Hope into the universe…PRAYERS of Love Crystals to heal humanity…We have to speak about these things and rid our beings of them. At first, I shunned the news reports. My insides were exhausted from their pain. Then I was again exposed to them–news from friends, events I have read about from other bloggers, the radio…I could not escape. Then I asked myself WHY? WHY can’t I get away from this! I want to run and hide! Then I thought further — yes, it is so much easier to live apart from it…but it is still there…and these who are suffering need our voices! They need our joy…they need our light…they need us to speak for them and tell them we are sorry for their suffering. They need us to make movement in our beings to vocalize what they cannot. They need us to find a way to bring this to the attention of all–so that somehow, a new movement is begun to lift us up and beyond our savage ways and greed.
Transparency is our only tool to make the world a better place. I do not know what else we can do!
We are meant to be LIGHT to one another…regardless of your culture, your race, your religion, your spirituality…we are human beings and we are hurting each other into annihilation!
This is WHY…these are the SUFFERINGS I have met with this week in the News and in the Blogs I have read and I cannot bear the suffering alone anymore…and I am sure there are so many of you out there suffering with me. We need to stop the inhumanity of man!
I pray for those who have suffered from my hands…for those who have suffered from the hands of others…and for those who have caused the suffering–that they may wake from their coma and be peacemakers.
* the men and women, innocent children, babies that have been killed by the USA drone attacks!
* the three young women and child that were kidnapped for 10 Y E A R S
* the 3 year old boy who was scalded to death last week in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, by a boyfriend enraged!
* the men who have been beaten to death, women who have been raped, boys who have been raped, children who have been tortured in the Congo, mining coltan so that we can use our cell phones and the computer I am using to type these words. Nokia is one of the companies that conducts business with these people.
* the guns that are delivered to developing countries–who is making money from these gun purchases? Corporations here in America. Every time one of us buys a gun, we add to their wealth, their greed, their unconcern for those to whom they sell the fire arms.
* the Native Americans who have been given the worse land in this country on which to live and still do not have their freedom on these lands, with the constant inhumane federal regulations that supersede their own human rights.
* the Fracking of Mother Earth–destroying the FOUR water basins here in the USA. The “fracking of Africa” by European corporations who do NOT want to spoil their own lands, so they go into Africa and offer money to use the land. One more time Africa is being raped by the new colonial power: CORPORATE GREED.
* the homeless on our streets—who is there to speak for the mentally challenged, for the impoverished, for the financially drained? We have tons of buildings that stand empty because of bureaucracy and stupid coding laws–done in the name of safety. SO I suppose it much safer to let entire families live on the streets without shelter?
* the elderly who are put into the “gas chambers” called nursing homes? Why? Because we can not bear to take care of our own parents? So we stick them away…out of sight…and go on with our lives. Nursing homes today are a million times worse than they were forty years ago when I worked in them– despite the outward appearance. We have managed to sophisticate our image to hide the abuse.
* the lack of funds for education hidden under the guise of new competency testing. Testing is nothing but a money-making scheme of Corporate America once again fleecing our society. If we do not educate our children, then what do we have for our future? Do you really think Corporate America cares about your child? Your children? They do not care IF you have employment. They care about one thing: their pocketbook!
I am exhausted and I am sure that there could be so much more added to this bleak picture. We have to be Light Beings to each other—we need to leave our comfort zone and do whatever little bit we can do…for some, it will be simply accepting another person into your circle of caring…for another it may mean walking in a protest march or organizing one…for another it may mean changing your attitude, your perception of the world, and live with a little less, while giving a little more…for another it may mean speaking up for someone who cannot speak…
We must do something…before it is too late…
I will try to be a love crystal to those whom I meet. I will try to sign whatever piece of paper comes my way that needs my signature to help make the world better. I will speak out about injustice– even if it annoys others.
We need to help each other make this world a better place for our children…for each woman…for each man….for each person on this Earth! and we need to protect Mother Earth!

No, I do not like asking people questions—when I was a teacher, I preferred students asking me questions…I better understood how to guide them in their learning.
2. Would you answer honestly?
Definitely…if I responded! If I did not want to share my truth with them, I would remain silent and not respond.
3. Do you know who Opie Taylor is?
I have no idea! Who is he?

That does seem to be a political question—and it would take ream of WordPress pages to respond to that one! Perhaps it refers to Glorified Manhood?
5. If you had a horse, what color would it be?
My color of horse would be a black and white pinto! If someone had a farm, and wanted me to share it with them, and promised me to buy me a black and white pinto, I might even consider marriage! …IF it was to a woman! [smile…]
